The programme is based on a cooperation agreement between the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Freie Universität Berlin and the Faculdades Católicas of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro.

It provides for the exchange of up to two students per year from the FU degree programmes M.A. International Relations and M.A. Political Science for a non-degree exchange. In the case of a non-degree exchange, it is not possible to obtain a Master's degree at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica. However, the credits earned there can be recognised for the MAIB. Students can attend courses at the Institute of International Relations at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. The courses IRI 2200 (Seminário Projeto Mestrado) and IRI2201 (Dissertação de Mestrado) are an exception at the PUC. These cannot be taken by exchange students.

There are no tuition fees at the PUC, but there are one-off administrative costs. However, students must cover their own living costs in Rio de Janeiro.

The receipt of the complete application is decisive for compliance with the application deadline.

Applications for the exchange programme must be submitted electronically to the MAIB office. The responsible committee selects suitable candidates and nominates them for the exchange programme. The application committee reserves the right to invite applicants to a personal interview. The FU nominates the candidates and the PUC decides on admission.

Please submit your application as early as possible so that any questions can be clarified in good time.

Requirements

Bis zum Beginn des Austausches müssen die Studierenden mindestens zwei Semester an ihrer Heimatuniversität absolviert haben. Zudem müssen sie gute akademische Leistungen erbracht haben und über ein B2-Niveau in Englisch verfügen.

Portugiesische Sprachkenntnisse werden nicht verlangt, die PUC Rio bietet jedoch vor und während des Semesters Portugiesischkurse an. Austauschstudierenden wird die Teilnahme daran empfohlen.

• Tabellarischer Curriculum Vitae auf Englisch (Geben Sie bitte Informationen zu Ihrer Studienfachwahl, Ihrem Studienverlauf sowie zu außeruniversitären Tätigkeiten, sozialem Engagement etc. an.)

• Ein Gutachten auf Englisch. (Die Gutachten müssen von den Gutachter*innen postalisch oder per E-Mail an die Geschäftsstelle geschickt werden. Die Gutachten müssen spätestens bis zum Bewerbungstermin eingegangen sein. Eine Aushändigung der Gutachten an die Bewerber*innen ist ausgeschlossen. Eine Vorlage für die Gutachten existiert nicht.)

• Offizielles aktuelles Transcript (Die Richtigkeit der Angaben über Anzahl und Benotung der Scheine wird nach abgeschlossener Auswahl überprüft. Bei falschen oder unvollständigen Angaben wird die Nominierung zurückgezogen.)

If you are nominated for a stay at the PUC Rio, you will need to submit additional documents:

• Copy of your international health insurance policy (must be valid for the entire period of your stay and include the name and contact details of the insurance company, the policy number and the period of insurance)
• Passport photo (3 x 4 cm)
• COVID-19 vaccination certificate
• Certificate of yellow fever vaccination (must be submitted at least 10 days before the start of the stay)
• Proof of transfer for the administrative costs and, if applicable, for the participation fee for the intensive Portuguese course
