Notes on the online application

Below, we have compiled a guide for online applications that you can use to guide your application.

Step 1: Prepare documents

During the application you will be asked to upload the following documents from your computer:

  • Certificate of previous studies or your previous degree
  • If you haven't obtained your degree yet: Transcript of Records (with average grade!)
  • Proof of German language skills
  • Proof of English language skills
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letter of motivation
  • ID document (copy)
  • University entrance qualification
  • Optional: Proof of vocational training, internships, employment
  • Optional: Proof of experience abroad

Allowed file formats: Microsoft Word (doc), PDF, Rich Text Format (rtf) and jpg.

Step 2: Apply online

  • Registration: Please enter your e-mail address. You will then receive a link to the application form, which you can revise at any time until the application deadline
  • Fill out the application form and upload documents
  • Check all entered data and documents. It is possible to change them online at any time before the application deadline
  • Submit (!) After sending the application, you will receive an automatic confirmation email that your documents have been received

Step 3: Letter of confirmation of participation in the application process

In the last section of the online application you will be asked to fill out a confirmation letter. This is a Word document that you need to download, fill out and print out. You then need to send this confirmation letter by postal mail to the MAIB Application and Admissions Office at the University of Potsdam. Your application will only be considered to have been submitted on time if we receive the confirmation letter before the application deadline, at the latest on February 1.

Please note that once you have logged in to the online application portal, you can go to the last page and download the confirmation letter. You can then send the letter by post, even if you have not yet completed your online application.

Application without present degree

Evidence of degrees or academic achievements obtained after the application deadline may be submitted subsequently. However, students who are not yet able to present a Bachelor's degree certificate may only apply if they do not lack more than 40 ECTS points up to the Bachelor's degree at the time of application.

It is essential to note the following:

If you are not yet able to present a Bachelor's certificate, it is essential that a preliminary average grade is calculated in your Transcript of Records, or your overview of achievements. Since this is an important criterion for admission, it must be recognizable on the official documents or additionally certified. If your documents do not show a preliminary average grade, you will automatically be given a 5.0 by our system, as we are not legally authorized to make an independent calculation. Your application has practically no chance under these circumstances, so please be sure to pay attention to this notice.

Your Bachelor's certificate will then be submitted when you enrol or, if you do not have it at this point, during the first during the first MAIB semester as part of a provisional enrolment directly to the relevant enrolment office.

Important notes

  • Only proofs of German and English are required for your application. Other language skills will not be considered and therefore do not need to be proven in the application.
  • Please note that only documents in German or English can be considered for your application.
  • Documents in other languages must be uploaded with a certified translation into German or English

Data protection
The information you provide in your application will not be passed on to third parties. The information will be used exclusively for the application process. Personal data of admitted students will be forwarded to the enrollment offices and the study and examination office to a limited extent. All other data will be destroyed after two years at the latest.
